The Challenge

Revitalizing tennis programming and creating beginner-friendly pickleball opportunities.

The City of Rocklin faced a dual challenge with its tennis courts, catering to both tennis and pickleball players, reserved and drop-in play. The need arose for a solution that would accommodate players who preferred scheduled playtimes while maintaining open access for those who preferred the first-come-first-serve approach. Additionally, the city sought to revitalize its tennis programming, and create more opportunities for pickleball players, especially for beginners who were seeking more accessible opportunities, despite nearby dedicated pickleball courts for advanced players.

Solution

In collaboration with the City of Rocklin, Rec addressed these challenges through a multifaceted approach. The first step involved the implementation of a straightforward reservation system on a portion of the courts, providing a solution for players who preferred a set playtime while keeping other courts available for spontaneous play.

Simultaneously, Rec partnered with the city to enhance tennis programming. This included onboarding multiple instructors to offer a diverse range of lessons and opportunities for tennis enthusiasts. To meet the demand for increased pickleball options, Rec leveraged the existing dual-lined tennis courts, recognizing them as an ideal space for beginners seeking accessible pickleball opportunities.

Acknowledging the presence of dedicated pickleball courts nearby for advanced players, Rec focused on beginner and advanced beginner pickleball programming. This encompassed structured classes and regular tournaments, creating a comprehensive and inclusive recreational environment for individuals of varying skill levels.
